After very intense weeks of application processes, 420 women were finally able to sign their Income Share Agreements and are currently in their second week of the bridge program at Akilah Institute. Info events with guardians, workshops about the solidarity principle and online application processes were the steps every student had to take before the official contract signing in the CHANCEN International office. It was a very exciting time for the CHANCEN International team and we are glad that these young women have started their career paths at the Akilah Institute financed by our solidarity model. The solidarity principle behind Income Share agreements guarantees sustainable development in student financing: the graduates finance the young generation of students with their repayments.

The three two-year Diplomas that are offered at Akilah meet labor market needs in Rwanda and ensure graduates contribute to the social-economic growth of Rwanda. Students choosing Business Management & Entrepreneurship get an in-depth understanding of business management and the key technical skills needed to succeed in business. Studies of Information Systems, provide students with the expertise to become tech leaders and innovators in global business. Finally, there is Hospitality Management where students learn the fundamentals of customer service, hotel management, and human resources. One of the unique aspects of Akilah is that they focus on nurturing leadership skills and ensure their students are involved in community development.

Before taking on to one of these Diplomas our students have now started with a bridge program that lasts for 7 weeks and provides students the foundation on which they can continue their studies with a focus on English and Information Systems skills.

Every year more than 800 young women are accepted to Akliah Institute. Unfortunately, due to restricted financial resources, we were not able to offer ISA’s to all of them. For the future, we hope that we can increasingly enable tertiary education in Rwanda and Sub Saharan Africa. We are currently looking for investors/sponsors to be able to cover the tuition fees of another 1.600 students in 2019. If you are interested to learn more about the project, please look up www.chancen.international or contact CHANCEN International CEO Batya Blankers: blankers@chancen.international.
