Very spontaneously CHANCEN eG was able to welcome a new intern. We had the Interview with Mara the last days of June and since the second of July, she is supporting our communication Team and already organized our office warming party and taken part in the admission days at CODE University. In the interview, she tells us about her own experiences as a student, her work at CHANCEN eG and why she chose an internship in a social startup.
Dear Mara, we warmly welcome you to our team! It’s great that you will be supporting us in our High season before the Winter semester. How did you hear about CHANCEN EG?
Thank you very much! I am so glad to be here. Social justice has always been important to me and I wanted to support that with my work. In addition, I wanted to offer help there were I really was needed, which is why I started looking for social startups in Berlin. I applied immediately and got an Interview during my vacation and could start as soon as I was back in Berlin.
What would you say brought you to your interdisciplinary studies of “Arts and Sciences” in London?
I am a person with multiple interests and it was hard for me to chose a degree since I felt many courses were very one-sided. Studying Arts and Sciences I can pick modules from different faculties that complement each other. Moreover I am convinced that to solve a complex problem of any kind it needs to be looked at from multiple angles. The interdisciplinary modules that teach to combine different perspective and take them into consideration for solving the issue.
Social Media, office warming Party, Admission Day….you already managed a wide variety of tasks. Please give us …..about your tasks
My tasks have been very varied from the beginning which is exactly what I really love about it. After just two days I had the responsibility to organize the office warming party, which was a lot of fun but also quite challenging. During the preparations, I had to organize a lot in the office, made phone calls, organized meetings and did some shopping. At the same time, I took care of people interested in CHANCEN eG and did some translations as well as co-designing a Flyer for CHANCEN International.
What was the most fun for you until now?
The variety and the challenges are great. Planning the officewarming party and the contact with applicants in interviews or on the admission days were especially fun. I also like having the responsibility for social media a lot. There I can reflect about what is interesting to our students and applicants and post good content. I also can get creative here which is a nice diversification.
Is there anything that surprised you about CHANCEN eG?
The constant presence of sustainable thought in the office and of solidarity which visible in all parts of CHANCEN eG surprised me positively.
Your studies will continue in September which is why you will just be able to stay in our team until the end of August. What are your plans for the second half of your internship?
Yes, sadly it’s already half-time. I am looking forward to continuing my work on the social media channels as well as being part of the admission processes. In addition, I might write some posts and blogs for CHANCEN International and I am sure more tasks will pop up. Even after my internship, I would be happy to continue supporting CHANCEN eG in any way possible.
